Vaccinated cattle will be uniquely identified, all cattle will be sold by order of arrival. Vaccinated cattle must be accompanied by a vaccination declaration.
Producers are encouraged to pre register all feeder cattle as early as possible – ASL will be list pre registered cattle on their website.

The Nova Scotia Cattle Producers held their annual general meeting on February 25, 2012 at the Best Western Glengarry in Truro, Nova Scotia. At the meeting George Smith was elected as a Member at Large while Larry Weatherby was elected as the Zone 4 representative and William Cox retained his Zone 1 seat during the regional meetings.
After the AGM, membes of the Board met to elect their 2012-13 Executive which includes:

TRURO – If a Nova Scotian food distributor gets approval for a federal-provincial meat registration project, it will have a positive affect on all local cattle producers.
For Joe Ebbett, of Meadow Brook Farm in Balfron, that would be good news.
“It’s a wonderful project because it opens up trade routes for producers,” said Abbott, following the seventh Nova Scotia Cattle Producers annual general meeting held at the Best Western Glengarry on Saturday
“Especially for us here in the Maritimes because we’re so closely knit together.”
Two Hoof Health and Trimming Workshops are being held March 27th. One will be in Antigonish (9-11 AM) another in Grand Pre (5-7 PM). Karl Burgi will be leading the sessions. Karl travels throughout the world teaching and consulting to improve hoof health within the dairy industry. His motto is: “As caretakers of dairy cattle, we have a responsibility to do everything in our power…. my personal passion and business mission is to SAVE COWS.” These workshops will give you the chance to spend some valuable time with Karl, discussing methods to improve hoof health, maintain productivity and keep cows in the herd as long as possible. You will also get you the chance to see Karl working with cows to demonstrate his hoof trimming techniques. Because of the practical nature of these workshops, participant numbers will be limited to 20. These sessions are being offered as a companion to Dairy Focus 2012. Registration for each workshop is $50 + HST. NSAC is pleased to offer Livestock Medicine for Nova Scotia Meat and Milk Industries.
In this one-day course, participants will learn about the proper handling , storage and use of livestock medicines. Course materials will coincide with on-farm food safety programs and will lead to improved consumer confidence.
The course will be on Tuesday March 6, 2012 at room 254 Haley Institute at the NSAC.

Amherst, NS – The newly incorporated Maritime Beef Council held it’s first official meeting of the Board of Directors in Amherst, Nova Scotia, on December 19.
Jennifer MacDonald, Chair of the New Brunswick Cattle Producers, was elected as President with Jim Fraser, Nova Scotia Cattle Producers as Vice President. The Chairs of the Research Committee and the Programs and Policy Committee are Peter Verleun, and Brian Morrison,PEICattle Producers.

This year is an election year in Zone 1 (William Cox) and Zone 4 (John Tilley), a Member-at-Large (David Lavers) will be elected at the AGM.
Members are reminded that they can attend any of the Zone Meetings but will only be able to vote (where applicable) in their Zone.
